Postcard from China

Greetings from Beijing where I am sitting in my son’s sky  high flat looking out at a city of modern buildings which reach for the clouds. It is only at street level that there is any hint of the Beijing/Peking of the past. Tricyles laden with goods compete on the road with the multidude of modern cars. People sqat in doorways playing board games or eating bowls of rice/noodles.

I am here with my mother who flew in from Australia.A stiff back and her 83 years did not stop her climbing the Great Wall on Monday. I was worried today that she or I might slip as the heavens opened to release torrential rain on us during our visit today to the Forbidden City . I was also worried we might be lost ,never to emerge it is such a maze.

Sydney Australia next stop.
Best wishes
Sandra Palmer
