3 years ago, Ben Eadon finished his time as Parish Assistant at St Chrysostom’s and went on to train for the priesthood at Westcott House, Cambridge.
On Sunday, along with Sister Julie and Edna I went to Durham for Ben’s ordination as a deacon. Splendid sunshine and a beautiful city added to the celebrations of Ben’s family, friends and supporters.
The service, in Durham Cathedral led by Bishop Mark, the Bishop of Jarrow, was a lovely intimate occasion with 5 people being ordained deacon to serve in Durham Diocese. Music by the choir and a congregation in strong voice filled the cathedral as we prayed together. In the silence and stillness we heard a fluttering of wings as a dove, a symbol of the Holy Spirit invoked in the ordination service, hiding in the roof took a dramatic flight across the cathedral to the astonishment of the worshippers gathered.
Ben was pleased to be surrounded by so many supporters. It was a privilege for us to be there to support Ben and to represent the community of St Chrysostom’s Church which formed part of Ben’s journey of vocation and discernment.
We wish Ben all the best in his curacy at St Chad’s, Sunderland.
