Guinness and Hulme Hall: the facts

Greetings on St Patrick’s Day – March 17th 2012

With the help of Sister Lucie and Jack, students of Hulme Hall celebrated St Patrick a couple of days early this week with Evening Prayer in the Chapel, some food and the obligatory pint of Guinness.

Much was discussed – from holidays in Ireland, the famous ‘Guinness is Good for You’  slogan and the upcoming Hulme Hall Chapel trip to a Romanian Children’s village.

Three interesting facts about Guinness?

1. Arthur Guinness set up his first brewery in Leixlip, Co Kildare, in 1756 after he was left a £100 inheritance by his godfather, Archbishop Arthur Price.

2. The country that drinks the most Guinness after Ireland is…Nigeria

3. Up until 1939 if a brewer at the Protestant owned Guinness Brewery wished to marry a Catholic his resignation was required!
