I’m visiting my firm’s office in Johannesburg for two weeks at the moment in South Africa. The season is mid-Spring so the trees are recovering their leaves after the winter, the birds are calling earlier and earlier each morning & the temperature climbs each day to about 25 degrees – quite pleasant. Two weeks ago I’m told that it snowed briefly for the first time in 20 years, so a rare event.
My South African colleagues have welcomed me and taken time to show me around the city; typically I’ve found South African locals to be polite and reserved in a way we have partially lost in Europe. Restaurant menus reflect the locals’ love of meat although I’ve had some great local fish too – the ‘kingclip’ in particular. Excellent BBQ style cooking.
Today we have been to a cheetah breeding project and stroked a tame animal. They’re an impressive cat that accelerates even quicker than I do on my bicycle!
I’m here for a further week, with quite an amount of work to complete. Hope to see more wildlife next weekend before I return to Manchester.
