A Brief Encounter

On the sixth day of Christmas.

At that moment she came, and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. Luke 2.38

Day 6New life, whether the sight of a baby, or the first snowdrop, or buds on the trees, or a new born animal taking its first steps – these glimpses often bring about a moment of joyful hope in our hearts.

They are glimpses which are like little lights that suddenly flicker on in the darkness.

Anna, who speaks the words in the Bible verse above, had been a widow for many years. Her brief encounter with the baby Jesus, the Christ Child, filled her heart with hope and joy – and she burst out in praise to God.

In these days of waiting for a new year to begin, and looking in hope to the future, may we be open to sudden glimpses of new life and new hope, and treasure the joy they bring to our hearts.

An action for today: Look out for a sign of new life and hope today
