Ashes on the Go

Ash 1Today, Ash Wednesday, we stepped out of church with the ashes for Ashes on the Go. We stood outside church at lunchtime. At the end of the school day we stood outside the school. Many came to receive the ash on their forehead and have a short prayer.

Individuals came, whole families came, people of faith other than christian came too, and many were moved by this special moment in their day. One person was moved to tears at the prayer for him and his family, and many passers by watched – some must have puzzled about what was going on!

This was a simple opportunity to share this day and its message outside the church building, and also to have a moment of prayer with many, young and old.

As well as at the school ashes ‘on the go’ were offered outside church by Fr Chris who sat on the bench outside available for passers by. The number receiving the ash outside church was more than double inside.

Ash 2One lady after being ashed said: The words spoken while the ash was being put on my head remind I am just a visitor on earth and I will return to my Creator one day.

Another said A really special moment in a busy day. Thank you so much.
