We were very sad at church to learn that Tommy died in his sleep yesterday.
Tommy (Thomas Moore) has been a much loved and familiar figure at church, and in our local area, for many years. He began coming to Mass at St Chrysostom’s when he lived locally. In recent years he had to move to Victoria Nursing Home opposite church for health reasons.
From there his new home he would regularly pop in, to worship, and also during the week to sit down, have a chat and a cup of tea. He was content simply to sit by himself with a cup of tea, but also loved to chat with anyone who had time to sit with him. He was a great encourager and a friendly figure.
Tommy was always interested in our parish assistants and encouraged them in what they did. He would always remember them and ask how they were doing after they left us. He brought out of parish assistants pastoral care and understanding.
Although Tommy faced frustrations with mental and physical health he was a content man, happy if he had food and companionship, happy if Manchester City were doing well, and happy while he was able to get each week to Longsight market.
His simple open Christian faith, his contentment with life, his kind manner and smile gave us a lot at St Chrysostom’s. We will miss him. May he rest in peace.

I’m sad to hear of Tommy’s passing, it was always lovely to see him at church and I particularly liked it when he got onto discussing football as he was so animated and knowledgeable, in fact he was the only person I could ever stand to listen to in this regard as I generally dislike the subject so much!
I still remember the good days when i used to chat with tommy. Amazing personality!!! cant believe he’s no more with us :(. May god bless him.
