We ran in the park. We baked cakes. We had a quiz. We worked together.
Schools and church came together once more in May to raise money for the fantastic charity Mary’s Meals. Mary’s Meals works to provide school dinners for children who need them in developing countries. In this way they give a nourishing meal, and encourage education. ‘A simple solution to world hunger.’
Not only did we raise a wonderful amount of money we enjoyed ourselves in doing so, and we worked together – young and not so young, Christian and Muslim, people of faith and people of no faith – all for the common cause of working to supply school dinners for children who have very little.
So how did we do? here are the figures:
Cake sales at the schools: £221
Non Uniform days: at St Chrysostom’s School: £236.32 at St John’s £279.85
Sponsored run in Birchfields Park: £503.67
Donations in Church: £97.36
Quiz evening: £162
Total: £1500.20
It costs, on average, Mary’s Meals £12.20 per year to feed a child with school dinners so that means this year we have helped provide 123 children with school dinners for a year.
