A few years ago St Chrysostom’s was mentioned in Parliament (see here) now it seems the Queen has been informed of what we get up to!
In June this year we held some special events at Church to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday. One was a wonderful fun concert with music from the years of the Queen’s 90 years. We also had a special Sung Evensong at which we sang items with royal connections.
In addition children from St Chrysostom’s and St John’s schools prepared a small exhibition of the last ninety years and people connected in some way with our church have been writing on the church blog about their childhoods spent in differing decades of the last ninety years. (See for example this entry on the 50s)
Well, impressed by what we had done Canon Alma decided to write to the Queen telling her of our celebrations and sending congratulations to her on her 90th birthday.
Alma was delighted to receive a reply from Buckingham Palace. The reply (pictured here) included a thank you card as well as a personal letter written by Lady Susan Hussey, a Lady in Waiting to the Queen, and a godmother to the Duke of Cambridge!
In the letter Lady Hussey remarks that the Queen was ‘touched to learn about the concert and Choral Evensong.’
Undoubtedly many many letters of this nature have been sent out from Buckingham Palace, not least this year. Nevertheless it was a gracious act to reply to Canon Alma in this way, and a pleasing encouragement to what we do at St Chrysostom’s.
