Yesterday evening, a contingent from St C’s attended Penny King’s first Mass following her ordination as priest on Saturday.
What a glorious and memorable service!
We enjoyed the magnificent interior of St Elisabeth’s, Reddish – a fine Victorian church designed by Alfred Waterhouse. The service itself was splendid, with much hearty hymn-singing; David Warner impressively intoning the gospel reading; and then who should pop up to give the sermon but our own Father Ian showing off his mid-sabbatical sun-bronze and encouraging us to “Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!” (for an extract of the sermon click here).
And Penny beautifully sang the Eucharistic prayer and administered communion to the vast crowd, before we feasted on the lavish buffet and headed home in the evening sunshine.
